Ride the Challenge: Conquer Heuvelland’s Hills, History & Cobbles
The Gent Wevelgem classic is one of the traditional season openers for the Flemish cobbled cycling season, as well as the UCI cycling World Tour as a whole. Gent-Wevelgem is one of the absolute classics of the spring cycling season. The course is undeniably challenging, and the day before the pro race it’s your turn to discover what it truly feels like to glide over the cobbles, battle the fierce winds, and conquer the rolling hills in and around Heuvelland. As you ride, you’ll immerse yourself in a beautiful region steeped in (cycling) history and shaped by unforgettable landscapes. You can choose between four distances: 65 km, 95 km, 140 km, and 225 km. The 65 km route is an impressive journey through time, guiding you past numerous military cemeteries and poignant memorials, with the Menin Gate in Ypres as the undeniable highlight—an emotional pause in a scenic ride.
If you’re ready for a bigger challenge, the 95 km course awaits. Alongside the historical treasures of the Ypres region, this distance also leads you to the notorious Kemmelberg, where steep gradients and legendary cycling heritage meet. Riders tackling the 140 km and 225 km distances will face an even more demanding adventure, taking on seven additional climbs, including the Mont des Cats and the Zwarteberg. The Plug Streets, introduced in last year’s pro race, will also feature in the 95, 140, and 225 km courses, adding a unique twist of gravel and history to the ride.
