The most scenic rides near Marseille, offer sweeping views over the Mediterranean. Starting in the charming town of Cassis, the road climbs up the cliffs on a winding path that takes you along the spectacular “Route des Crêtes.” This route has some steep sections but rewards you with breathtaking views and descents. Start early to avoid heavy traffic, especially during peak tourist season. Be cautious as the route is narrow in parts with sharp drop-offs. The Calanques National Park is a stunning area of fjord-like inlets and turquoise waters. Cycling through this area offers both challenging climbs and rewarding descents. You’ll pass through rocky landscapes and have views over the sea.
Tips: Access can be restricted in summer due to fire hazards. Check local regulations before heading out. The roads are narrow, so this route is best avoided during peak tourist hours.
